Flughafen Düsseldorf GmbH has commissioned Klüh Cleaning, a subsidiary of the Klüh Group, to provide comprehensive cleaning services at Düsseldorf Airport. The contract is set to start on 1 February 2025. The cleaning specialist was able to convince the client with a precisely tailored concept for optimised facility management.
Under the contract, Klüh Cleaning works around the clock every day to clean a total area of around 170,000 square metres, which includes the terminal, piers, administrative buildings and adjoining properties. The services include the regular maintenance, terminal and exterior cleaning, provision of consumables and cleaning of the sanitary areas, ongoing special cleaning work, disposal services and glass and basic cleaning.
“We are looking forward to taking on responsibility for the cleaning at Düsseldorf Airport. We regard the trust placed in us by the airport as a sign of appreciation and confirmation of our strength in developing customised, innovative cleaning concepts, which we work out together with our customers on site”, explains Frank Theobald, Chairman of Klüh’s Executive Board.
“As an airport, we strive to offer our passengers an excellent travel experience. Which is why we are prioritising cleanliness and hygiene in the terminal. For this, Klüh is our partner of choice. The company impresses with highly integrated digital processes which form the basis for improved, economically sustainable and needs-based cleaning. We are looking forward to the cooperation”, says Lars Redeligx, CEO of Flughafen Düsseldorf GmbH.
A new level of facility management
Due to the scope, increased security requirements and changing passenger numbers, the coordination and planning of staff is very demanding. To make processes simple, efficient and transparent and to save costs and resources in the longer term, Klüh works on site with its digital management system EcoServ. Using an IoT framework, sensor technology, individually operated smart buttons and corresponding software, this enables efficient, resource-friendly processes, smooth communication and highly customisable services in real time. At the same time, sensors make it possible to monitor the filling levels of consumables or the frequency with which the toilet areas are used in the terminal and at the piers.
With more than 19 million passengers in 2023, Düsseldorf Airport is the largest in North Rhine-Westphalia. From here, more than 60 airlines fly to over 160 destinations worldwide. Situated in one of Europe’s strongest economic regions, with 18 million inhabitants within a radius of 100 kilometres, Düsseldorf Airport serves a vital function in meeting the mobility needs of the population and economy in North Rhine-Westphalia and the south-eastern Netherlands. Moreover, as the largest workplace in Düsseldorf, with over 20,000 jobs, the airport provides considerable employment impulses for the state.
Klüh has been an experienced and competent partner for airports, airlines and handling companies in Germany and internationally for over 40 years. Its core competencies comprise networked services which, alongside terminal-related cleaning services, also include aircraft interior cleaning, on-board equipment, ramp and hangar operations, maintenance tasks, security, wheelchair services and assistance for people with restricted mobility.
