As the company celebrated its 75th anniversary in 1986, Josef Klüh set up a foundation, the Klüh Foundation for the Promotion of Innovation in Science and Research, to show his gratitude for the company's success. Projects that are particularly worthy of support are honoured at an annual awards ceremony. The Foundation has supported a wide range of medical research projects over the years. Previous awards have usually been given to medical research projects that receive no public funding.
The Klüh foundation has distributed more than 730,000 euros in prize money since 1986.
Prize-winners in recent years have included Dr Thomas Meyer, Head of the ALS working group at Charité Berlin (2006), Eva Luise Köhler, patron of ACHSE e.V. (2012), and Dr Ayse Gül-Schmidt, Clinic for Maxillofacial Surgery, Charité Campus Virchow, Berlin (2014) and Prof. Thomas E. Schläpfer, Clinic of Psychiatry and Psychotherapy, University of Bonn (2016).
